    About the Artists

    Marimbist Makoto Nakura is a musician whose artistry and astonishing virtuosity have been mesmerizing audiences for decades. Winner of the first prize for the prestigious Young Concert Artists International, Nakura’s critically acclaimed performances around the world have included venues in London, Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires, and he has performed for audiences in 41 of the 50 states. His recitals have been widely televised by KBS (Korea) and NHK (Japan), as well as many radio stations. His album, Wood and Forrest, will be featured on November 14th as well as Mandala for two marimbas by Robert Paterson.

    Composer and percussionist Robert Paterson was recently cited in Fanfare magazine as “a very important composer working in the scene today in America.” Mr. Paterson was awarded Composer of the Year from the Classical Recording Foundation, presented at Carnegie Hall in 2011. Current projects include two operas with librettist David Cote and upcoming performances with the Austin Symphony and Buffalo Philharmonic. Paterson is the Artistic Director of American Modern Ensemble, and he is a pioneer in the development of a six-mallet technique that he developed. This technique will be featured at the Rubin Museum and on his new album, Modern Marimba.
