Includes a pre-program gallery tour at 6:00 p.m. with Dr. Nida on dreams and dying.

Death and terminal illness confront us with the impermanence of our physical bodies and the fleeting nature of all existence. If denied or repressed, such awareness can lead to madness and depression. Integrated, it leads to liberation from the fears and untenable hopes that contract our lives. The contemplation of suffering is the foundation of the Buddhist path. Encountering the symptoms and sources of disease, from cancer to primordial unrest, attachments diminish and compassion grows.

“When finally your life forces disintegrate,
Watch the elements of the body dissolve.
Then, like remeeting an old friend,
Eagerly greet the clear light of death.”

    - Seventh Dalai Lama
