    The second episode of Phantom India, Louis Malle's seminal cinema direct documentary on Indian society, compiles much of the footage shot by Malle and his crew during their time in Madras.

    About the Speaker

    Aparna Frank is currently completing her dissertation on the early feature films of avant-garde filmmakers Mani Kaul and Kumar Shahani in the Department of Cinema Studies, New York University. She has an MA in cinema studies from New York University as well. She has taught courses on European and American new wave films, film color, and Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ at New York University and Hunter College. Her research interests include the aesthetic study of film, non-mainstream film practices in India, and histories of modernist and avant-garde cinema.
