Holly Near's Naked Soul concert celebrates the naked voice, as it showcases her rich sound in the Rubin's intimate, cherrywood-lined theater. Accompanied by a touch of instrumentation, she presents a unique program created especially for the Rubin Museum, and inspired by a 19th century Tibetan thangka painting from the museum’s galleries entitled Avanda, or “Noble Deeds.”
Near grew up on a ranch in Northern California where she sang from mountain tops as her initial vocal training. This was followed by work in musical theater, folk, jazz and popular music styles. For over 40 years, Holly Near has been a musical ambassador for peace and understanding all over the world. She and her band recently performed two sold out shows in New York City, and now she returns to sing her first concert at the Rubin with a completely different program, celebrating the raw and fascinating elements of the voice and of noble deeds.
