    Did You Know?

    • Much of the film was improvised by the young cast, which is why there is no screenwriter credited to the film.
    • The film was shot on the Island of Vieques, Puerto Rico, only a week before the Bay of Pigs Invasion.  Many of the wounded were transported to the American Naval hospital on the island.
    • There was too much noise on the beach, so most of the dialogue had to be re-recorded after filming for each day was completed.
